who: Who is On

Typing

who
will display on the standard output the logon names of the users on the system, and the time at which they logged on.
prompt> who
cantin console Jan 12 08:42
cantin ttyp0 Jan 12 08:43
cantin ttyp1 Jan 12 08:43
tells us that user cantin is logged on three times: once on the console and twice from windows. All three sessions were started on January 12 slightly after 8:30 in the morning.

If the output had included

cantin ttyp0 Jan 12 08:46 (nrccsb3.di.nrc.ca)
this would mean that cantin is logged onto the current machine remotely, from a system whose name is nrccsb3.di.nrc.ca.
