There are two types of printer commands: Berkeley based, and System V based. Suns and DECs use only Berkeley based, whereas SGIs use mainly System V based (printers connected to remote Berkeley systems are officially supported; local Berkeley is available but not officially supported).
This section will discuss briefly the basic printer commands. The Commands section in Part 2 will discuss them in much more detail.
