Ford considers killing the 4.6 Cobra engine

BlueOvalNews has secured documentation that Ford Motor Company is considering killing the Cobra's 4.6 DOHC engine.

While the documents do not show that the Cobra program itself will die, they CLEARLY indicate that the Cobra's 4.6 engine is in serious jeopardy of being killed off.

BlueOvalNews recently reported that the 1999 Cobra has been plagued with quality problems <more> and owners have begun to question Ford and SVT as to when a fix will be offered <more>.

Reliable sources at Team Mustang have assured BlueOvalNews that they are working hard to insure that ALL 1999 Cobra Mustangs will perform as expected. BlueOvalNews wants to assure 1999 Cobra owners that we stand unconditionally and unreservedly behind them - we stuck our neck out once and and we'll do it again if we have to.

Most owners of 4.6 powered Cobras are happy with the engines performance; however, others have been critical that the Cobra needs more power and/or cubic inches to better compete with the Camaro SS. The Cobra is still one of the best buys out there right now though.

It is not clear as to which engine will replace the Cobra's 4.6, IF in fact Ford does decide to pull the plug on it. It's also not clear as to when the change might occur.

Sources around Dearborn are alleging that both Ford and Team Mustang have been releasing fake documents detailing the Cobra Mustang's future engine plans to confuse spies and possibly verify the source of leaks.

BlueOvalNews has obtained numerous documents detailing the Cobra Mustang's engine program and some of the information is very conflicting, which seems to validate the above claim.

BlueOvalNews has a difficult time obtaining Ford internal documentation, but now Ford has just raised the standards by putting out false documents to confuse the media -.

Some documents state the 4.6 will be replaced by an all new 4.6. Others indicate that an all new V8 is on the way. One DEW program document showed a Mustang with a 3.9. We've seen a regular production 5.4 Cobra documented as well.

The only thing that we know for CERTAIN is that the Cobra's 4.6L engine is being questioned by Ford. According to our source at Ford Engine Engineering the possibility of the 4.6L Cobra getting cut is very high.
